Restock - Inventory Forecasting & Reorder Poin

Description

The problem

Every small retailer, wholesaler, and e-commerce operator answers the same question every week: *what do I need to reorder, and how much?* Most answer it by eyeballing shelves or maintaining a fragile spreadsheet of averages someone built years ago. Get it wrong one way and you stock out of your best seller mid-season; get it wrong the other way and your cash sits on a shelf as dead stock.

Cloud inventory-planning SaaS solves this — for a recurring monthly subscription, forever, with your sales data living in someone else's pipeline.

---

What Restock does

Restock is a self-hosted PHP web app you install once on your own server or shared hosting. You import your sales history as CSV (`date, sku, qty` — straight out of any POS or order export), set each product's supplier lead time and safety buffer, and Restock computes — with plain, deterministic arithmetic:

- Average daily demand per SKU over a configurable window (default 90 days), with a 30-day comparison so you can see demand trending up or down - Reorder point = (avg daily demand × lead time) + safety stock - Days of stock left at the current sell rate - Suggested order quantity to reach your target days of cover, with estimated cost

The reorder report lists everything at or near its reorder point, most urgent first, and exports to a clean CSV you can send straight to your suppliers.

Your sales data never leaves your server. There is no subscription and no per-SKU meter.

---

Who this is for

- Retail shops and e-commerce sellers reordering from wholesalers on lead times - Wholesalers and distributors managing dozens to hundreds of SKUs - Workshops, manufacturers, and food producers with consumables that burn at steady rates - Anyone currently running reorder math in a spreadsheet - Developers who want a clean, dependency-free reorder engine to build on

---

Who this is NOT for

- Operations needing purchase-order lifecycle, barcode scanning, or supplier EDI - Multi-warehouse / multi-location transfer planning - Businesses wanting ML/seasonal-decomposition forecasting — Restock is deliberately simple moving-average math you can verify by hand - Teams needing multiple user accounts (single admin login per install)

---

What you get

- Products with SKU, stock, supplier, unit cost, lead time, and safety stock (days-of-demand or a fixed unit override) - Sales-history CSV import: columns matched by header name in any order, malformed rows skipped with per-line reasons, 5 MB / 50k-row caps, safe to re-run - Products CSV import with upsert by SKU - Manual sales entry and per-product / global history clearing - Dashboard with below / near / healthy counts and the five most urgent SKUs - Reorder report sorted by urgency with suggested quantities + estimated total cost - Spreadsheet-safe CSV export (formula injection neutralized without corrupting negative numbers) - Money stored as integer cents — no floating-point money anywhere - Settings: business name, currency symbol, forecast window, target cover days, timezone - One-click realistic demo data + reset - Web installer, MySQL or SQLite, shared-hosting compatible, zero Composer dependencies

Objections answered

"Is the math a black box?" No. The four formulas are printed in the app and the README. Reorder point = avg daily demand × lead time + safety stock. You can check any number with a calculator — and the engine ships with an automated test suite (140+ assertions) that does exactly that.

"Will this run on shared hosting?" Yes. Restock requires PHP 8+ with PDO — present on virtually all cPanel/Plesk hosts. MySQL and SQLite are both supported. Install takes about two minutes through the web installer.

"How do I get my sales data in?" Export orders from your POS / cart as CSV with date, SKU, and quantity columns (names and order don't matter — Restock maps by header). Upload. Bad rows are skipped and reported line-by-line, never silently.

"What about new products with no history?" They're handled gracefully — no divide-by-zero, days-of-stock shows as unlimited, and you can set a manual safety-stock floor in units until history accumulates.

---

Skeptic FAQ

"I could do this in a spreadsheet." That spreadsheet is exactly what Restock replaces: it's the same reorder math, but always current with your latest import, never a broken formula, sorted by urgency, and exported supplier-ready in one click.

"Cloud inventory planners already do this." They do — as a monthly subscription that keeps charging forever, with your sales history in their pipeline. Restock is a one-time purchase on your own server. If your needs are reorder points rather than a full planning suite, you stop renting.

---

Honest limitations

- Forecasts are estimates from your own sales history, not guarantees. Restock uses transparent moving-average demand — it does not model seasonality, promotions, or trend breaks. Erratic SKUs deserve a human look before you order. - Single-tenant: one company per installation (your team share it with roles) - No direct POS or supplier API integrations — CSV in, CSV out (named supplier / QuickBooks presets included, so the hand-off is a file your counterparty already accepts) - Restock plans the buying; it does not pay for it — no invoices, no payments, no accounts

---

Technical details

- PHP 8.0+ (tested on 8.3), zero Composer dependencies - MySQL 5.7+ / MariaDB or SQLite 3 (MySQL strict-mode safe — oversized or adversarial CSV values a

Features

  • CSV sales-history import with column mapping
  • Reorder point, safety stock and days-of-stock per SKU - formulas shown
  • Suggested order quantities and supplier-ready CSV purchase report
  • Lead time settings per product feed the reorder math
  • Dashboard with at-risk SKUs at a glance
  • Installable mobile app (PWA), dark mode
  • REST API with OpenAPI spec, webhooks, 2FA, roles + audit trail
  • MCP endpoint - works with AI assistants under the same role guards

Requirements

PHP 8.0 - 8.4, MySQL 5.7+/MariaDB (SQLite also supported), Apache or Nginx. Runs on ordinary cPanel/Plesk shared hosting. No Composer, no Node, no build step.

Instructions

Upload the zip and extract it on your host, then open the site in a browser - a 2-minute web installer asks for database credentials and creates your admin account. QUICKSTART.txt and a full README ship in the package. An offline test suite is included so you can verify the build.
