Installation Instructions

Step 1: Extract the Files

• Extract the COMS ZIP package to your computer.
• Copy the project folder into your web server directory, such as htdocs in XAMPP.

Step 2: Start the Server

• Open the XAMPP Control Panel.
• Start Apache and MySQL.

Step 3: Create the Database

• Open phpMyAdmin in your browser.
• Create a new MySQL database for COMS.
• Import the provided schema.sql file if available.

Step 4: Configure the Database

• Open the database configuration file, usually located in includes/config.php.
• Update the database host, database name, username, and password to match your local environment.

Step 5: Configure File Permissions

• Ensure the uploads directory exists and is writable by the web server if the application uses image uploads.

Step 6: Run the Application

• Open your browser and navigate to http://localhost/COMS/, replacing COMS with your actual project folder name if different.
• Follow the setup instructions if the application provides a setup page.

Step 7: Sign In

• Use the administrator or staff credentials supplied with the package, if default accounts are included.
• Change any default passwords before using the system.

Step 8: Start Managing Your Restaurant

• Use the admin dashboard to manage staff and review system activity.
• Use the menu management page to maintain menu items and prices.
• Use the orders page to create and update orders.

Troubleshooting

• If the database connection fails, verify the credentials in the configuration file.
• If the application does not load, confirm that Apache and MySQL are running.
• If images cannot be uploaded, check the uploads directory and PHP upload settings.
• Back up your database regularly.
