BoardLite - Self-Hosted Kanban Board Script

BoardLite is a self-hosted Kanban board for small teams who want a real task board without paying a monthly SaaS subscription. Upload the script to any PHP host, run the one-time setup screen, and your team has a working board with boards, columns, and cards in minutes, no MySQL database to configure, no Composer install, no Node build step.

Drag-and-drop is real, not a static mockup: cards move between columns using the browser's native HTML5 drag-and-drop API and save instantly, with reordering supported within a column too. Every card also has a keyboard- and touch-friendly "Move to column" control next to the drag handle, so a card can be relocated without a mouse when that's not an option.

Each board starts with three default columns (To Do, In Progress, Done) that can be renamed, reordered, or removed, and cards carry a title, description, assignee, and optional due date. Team management uses two simple roles, admins manage the team and settings, members create boards and move cards, so it's easy to hand this to a small team without over-engineering permissions.

Data lives in a self-contained SQLite database, so there's no separate database server to install or maintain; the setup form creates everything on first visit. BoardLite ships with a bold cobalt-and-yellow sticky-note visual identity rather than another generic purple admin-dashboard template.

Requirements

PHP 8.1 or later with the `pdo_sqlite` extension. No other dependency.

Instructions

1. Upload the contents of `src/` to your web host, or run locally with `php -S localhost:8000 -t src`. 2. Make sure `src/data/` is writable by PHP. The included `.htaccess` in that folder blocks direct web access to the SQLite database; if you're on Nginx (which ignores `.htaccess`), add an equivalent `location` block denying access to `/data/` yourself. 3. Visit the site. With no admin account yet, you'll be taken to a one-time setup screen to create your workspace name and admin login. 4. Add team member accounts from the Team page. Admins manage the team and settings; any team member can create boards, add cards, and drag cards between columns. 5. Creating a board sets up three default columns (To Do, In Progress, Done). Add, rename, or delete columns from the board itself. 6. Drag a card to a different column, or reorder it within one, the new order saves immediately. Use the "Move to column" control as a keyboard/touch alternative. 7. Fill in a title, description, assignee, and optional due date for each card.
