What you get

Numbering runs in this browser with pdf-lib via WebAssembly. The file does not leave this device. Position is header or footer. Alignment is left, center, or right. Formats are 1, Page 1, 1/10, Page X of Y, lower-case Roman numerals i, ii, iii, and letters a, b, c. The starting number is set by you. Font and size are set by you. A live preview shows the number on the document page before download. The first page can be skipped. A page range can be set. Numbers are drawn on a scanned page. There is no watermark.

Numbers are written into the page content, not added as annotations. They show in every viewer and on every printout and cannot be turned off.

Do not click Add Page Numbers when no file is chosen. A file that is not a PDF stops with Choose a PDF. An empty page range stops with This page range is empty.

Methods

There is no method that accepts the file. The browser imports /runtime/add-page-numbers.js and calls addPageNumbers. pdf-lib writes the number into the page on this device. The download is the numbered PDF.
